The manga presents a fictionalized account of the historical Tang China diplomat Wang Xuance, focusing on his diplomatic expedition from Tang Dynasty China to the Empire of Harsha in India during the 7th century CE. Upon encountering a deteriorating empire that has turned hostile, he flees to Tibet and assembles a coalition of Tang, Tang Nepalese, and Tibetan soldiers to launch an assault on the Empire of Harsha.
